Shneider was born in Riga, Latvia (then part of the Soviet Union), in a Jewish family. Daughter of musician parents, demonstrated talent for music from an early age.
At the beginning of the 1970s he was a member of ‘Sovremennik’, a state pop orchestra, which featured Natasha Shneider in voice and piano, her first husband Serge Kapustin on guitar and percussion. His brother Vladimir Shneider produced and played piano and keyboard in ‘Singing Hearts’, which was one of the most popular groups in Russia in the mid-70s, whose sound production and was strongly controlled by the Soviet authorities. Vladimir Shneider mentioned:

In May 1976, Natasha Shneider, her husband Kapustin, and her brother Vladimir fled to the West and traveled to New York, playing nightly concerts in the city. Two years later they arrived in Hollywood, where they met Cuy Costa, chief operating officer of the Motown studio, who introduced them to Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records, who hired them with the name of Black Russian: they were the first Russian band in contracting with a “big” stamp. In June 1980 they released an R & B style pop album, which was well received by the critics, in which they highlighted some songs like Mystified, Leave Me Now (later edited as a single), Emptiness, New York City and Love’s Enough. However the album was a commercial failure and meant the dissolution of Black Russian. Shortly after, Natasha Shneider and Serge Kapustin divorced.
In 1987 her second husband Alain Johannes and Shneider released the album Walk the moon under the MCA label. In 1990, Eleven’s band was formed with drummer Jack Irons and they released their first album Awake a a dream the following year. The group was going to release four more albums in the next twenty years, with Irons leaving the group during the third album (Thunk) in 1995 to play with Pearl Jam, and returning for the fourth album (Avantgardedog) in 2000.
Shneider and Johannes participated with Josh Homme and other artists in The Desert Sessions, volumes 7 and 8. They also contributed to the 2002 album Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age, and joined the band as part of his tour, in support of his 2005 album, lullabies to paralyze him (Alain Johannes also contributed several songs for Lullabies ).
They also wrote, performed and produced with Chris Cornell for their 1999 solo album, Euphoria Morning, and were part of their band for the subsequent tour.
