Mitch Mitchel was an influential drummer from the late 60s to the beginning of the 70s.

He devoted himself to his work in songs such as Manic Depression and Third Stone From the Sun. Mitch was very influenced by jazz and was strongly inspired by his work with Elvin Jones. Mitch started a form of playing that would later be called fusion, In 1966, this innovative style of playing was new to Rock.

In 1968 he participated in the television special “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus” as a drummer for The Dirty Mac, a group formed by John Lennon, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards, where they performed the song Yer Blues.

Mitch was an important musical collaborator of Jimi Hendrix, playing in the trio The Jimi Hendrix Experience from October 1966, until 1969. This being his band at the Woodstock festival in August 1969. He also worked with the band The Cry of Love, in 1970.

After the death of Jimi Hendrix, Mitch (along with engineer Eddie Kramer), completed several incomplete recordings of Jimi Hendrix, giving rise to the album released with the name of Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge.

In 1972, he joined two guitarists, April Lawton and Mike Pinera to form Ramatam. They recorded an album with which they will open the show for ELP in several concerts. Ironically, Mitch had been invited to play at ELP, in 1970, but declined in favor of playing with Jimi Hendrix. Mitch also did some work with Terry Reid, Jack Bruce and Jeff Beck (replacing Cozy Powell, since he was sick).

At the end of the 70s and until the 90s, Mitch excelled little by doing odd jobs (like the album Long Walk Home by Junior Brown) and also participating in several videos and interviews related to Jimi Hendrix.

He was part of the Gypsy Sun Experience band, along with former Jimi Hendrix bassist Billy Cox and guitarist Gary Serkin.

Died on November 12, 2008 at age 61 due to natural causes. In this way, the band The Jimi Hendrix Experience lost its last surviving member.
