Rolf Åke Mikael Nyqvist (Stockholm, November 8, 1960-ibid, June 27, 2017) was a Swedish actor.

Michael Nyqvist’s Biography

Although his biological father was Italian, Nyqvist was adopted and studied at the School of Dramatic Arts in Malmö.He became known in the first season of the series Beck (1997) in the role of Banck. In the film The Black Carnation was the Swedish diplomat and humanitarian Harald Edelstam and won the Guldbagge Award for best male actor in 2003. Despite this, his world-wide fame came with the film adaptation of Millenium – written by the late Stieg Larsson -, where he plays the protagonist Mikael Blomkvist. In 2011 he was the antagonist of the fourth film of the successful Mision Imposible saga, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

In the most personal aspect, the actor was married to the set designer Catharina Ehrnrooth, with whom he had two children. In addition, in 2009 his novel Nar barnet lagt sig was published, in which he refers to the search of his biological parents.

Nyqvist died on June 27, 2017 due to lung cancer at age 56.
