Meshuggah (Hebrew: Loco) is an extreme metal Swedish band formed in 1987 in Umeå, Sweden. His most enduring formation is formed by the founders Jens Kidman (vocalist), Fredrik Thordendal (guitarist), drummer Tomas Haake (who joined in 1990) and rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström (who joined in 1993). The band has had several members occupying the position of bearish, but at the moment it is occupied by Dick Lövgren from 2004. They are known to be the creators of the genre Djent.

Meshuggah drew international attention with his debut album Destroy Erase Improve in 1995 for his fusion of death metal, thrash metal and progressive metal in fast tempos. Since his 2002 album Nothing, Meshuggah has used eight-string guitars and bass and rhythmic riffs. The band has gained recognition thanks to its complex and polyrhythmic structures and its precise instrumentation. The band has not achieved much success in the mainstream public, but they are one of the most famous bands in the extreme underground scene.

Following the publication of Nothing, all their albums have entered the Billboard 200 list. Their obZen album reached 59th place and sold 11 400 copies in its first week in the United States and 50 000 six months later. In 2006 and 2009, Meshuggah was nominated for a Grammi (the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy awards). Since its formation, Meshuggah has published eight studio albums, five EPs and eight music videos and has also participated in festivals such as the Download Festival and the Ozzfest.
