Carlo Mazzarella (July 30, 1919 – March 7, 1993) was a theater and film actor and journalist of Italian nationality.
Born in Genoa, Italy, he studied at the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica, in the same class as Vittorio Gassman, but his acting career was limited to the interpretation of supporting roles (he did not like, among other things, to be reminded of his performances in some Totò films). From this experience he kept his extraordinary ability to address the public, which he highlighted in his profession as a commentator, in some moments as a journalist and in other showman, as defined.
In 1964 he made a special service for television, Viaggio tra i negri d’America, for which he was awarded the “Medusa d’oro” prize. The production, as well as the relevance of its content and its social commitment, was distinguished by its lively journalistic style, adapted to the general public. That same year he also participated in the Za-bum variety television program.
Famous for his reports on Asia and the United States, for his fine humor and for inventing nicknames for television characters, Mazzarella loved to talk to his audience directly, which he did for a while on Sundays in the channel. TG2 news.
