Martina Hingis Short Bio

Martina Hingis (Košice, September 30, 1980) is a former professional Swiss tennis player of Czechoslovakian origin. She has been the number one player in the world in the WTA ranking both in singles and doubles. During his career he has won five individual Grand Slam tournaments (three Australian Open, one Wimbledon and one US Open) and was a finalist in another seven, including twice at Roland Garros. She also won thirteen Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles – winning the Grand Slam (all four tournaments in the same year) in 1998 – and seven in mixed doubles.

In addition, Hingis won 17 individual Tier I tournaments, two WTA Tour Championships and a total of 43 individual titles, as well as 64 doubles titles. In total, it has 114 titles, combined. It remained at number 1 in individual WTA rankings for 209 weeks. She is considered one of the best athletes that have existed in her country.

After several chronic and severe injuries to the ligaments of the feet, he retired in October 2002 at the age of 22 years. After multiple operations and a long recovery, Hingis returned to the tracks of the circuit of the WTA in 2006. On his return to the tracks he managed to occupy the 6th place in the world ranking and win 3 WTA titles in singles.

On November 1, 2007, he announced his retirement from tennis after months of injuries and testing positive for cocaine after the 2007 Wimbledon Championship. On January 4, 2008, the test was confirmed as Hingis. suspended for two years, starting on October 1, 2007.

On July 15, 2013, he announced his return as a doubles player at the Carslbad Tournament, which was held two weeks later.
