Thomas Mark Harmon (Burbank, California, September 2, 1951), better known as Mark Harmon , is an American actor. He has worked in television series and films since the mid-1970s. Since 2003 he has starred in the television series NCIS, which is aired on CBS.

Early life

Born in Burbank, California on September 2, 1951, he is the son of actress Elyse Knox and American football player Tom Harmon, and has two older sisters, both married to famous men. He studied at the University of California and, following in his father’s footsteps, was the quarterback of the UCLA Bruins between 1972 and 1973. He worked as a carpenter before being successful in his acting career.


On television he started working as an actor playing a recurring role in the series Ozzie’s Girls (1973). He made other roles mostly small throughout the 1970s, in series such as Adam-12 (1968), Emergency! (1972), The Policewoman (1974), or Delvecchio (1976), as well as the co-star in the first season of the police 240-Robert (1979-1980), until he became famous in the early 1980s when he starred in the series Flamingo Road (1980-1982), which opened the doors to major Hollywood productions. Especially noteworthy are his performance in Stronger than Hate (1988), Peter Hyams’ film with Sean Connery and Meg Ryan as co-stars, and the co-production of Tuareg (1984), a film based on the novel of the same name by Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa . They also highlighted their roles as doctor Bobby Caldwell in St. Elsewhere, Mr. Freddy Shoop in Summer School, a movie for teenagers, and the television movie The Deliberate Stranger, for which he won a Golden Globe nomination for best actor for a television movie. Harmon was named the sexiest living man by People magazine in 1986, in 1987 he starred in the drama film After the Promise (Valuable Promise or the Courage) where he plays Elmer Jackson.

In the decade of 1990 it carried out the series reasonable Doubts (1991), next to Marlee Matlin. He also starred in a television movie based on the life of John Dillinger, Dillinger (1991), and participated in the overproduction of Lawrence Kasdan, Wyatt Earp (1994).

In October of 2012, he was awarded the No. 2482 star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
