Mark Gatiss (Sedgefield, October 17, 1966) is an English actor, screenwriter and novelist best known for being a member of the group of comedians called The League of Gentlemen with Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton and co-writer Jeremy Dyson. He has also written and performed for the television series Doctor Who and Sherlock. He also participates in the Taboo series (TV series 2017) of BBC One and FX in the role of Prince Regent (George IV of the United Kingdom).

Mark_Gatiss’s Biography

Gatiss was born in Sedgefield, England, where he grew up in front of the Edwardian Psychiatric Hospital where his parents worked. His childhood passions included seeing Doctor Who and Hammer’s horror films on television, reading Sherlock Holmes and HG Wells, and collecting fossils. All these interests have nurtured his creative work as an adult.

He attended the Heighington CE Primary School and the Woodham Comprehensive School in Newton Aycliffe; in this last one, his studies were also studied by Paul Magrs, future screenwriter in Doctor Who.

He is openly gay and appeared on the UK’s most influential gay list produced by The Independent on Sunday in 2010 and 2011. He is currently in civil union with actor Ian Hallard.
