Marc Ribot (pronounced / riːboʊ /) (Newark, New Jersey, United States, May 21, 1954) is an American songwriter and guitarist. He has participated in eclectic projects ranging from free jazz to Cuban music and collaborated with musicians such as Andrés Calamaro, John Zorn, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull and Caetano Veloso.

In his adolescence he studied classical guitar with the Haitian composer and performer Frantz Casseus. In 1978 he emigrated to New York to join the Realtones group and work as a musician with artists such as Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas and Chuck Berry, between 1978 and 1985.

The first recording as a session musician was on Tom Waits’ album Rain Dogs, participating with a peculiar sound in his later albums Franks Wild Years, Mule Variations and Real Gone. With Elvis Costello he collaborated on the albums Mighty Like a Rose (1991), and Kojak Variety (1995).

Ribot frequently collaborates with John Zorn and musicians from the Tzadik Records label, including many volumes of the Zorn Filmworks Series, as well as the Masada Guitars, Bar Kokhba Sextet and Electric Masada ensembles.

Another remarkable project is Marc Ribot and Los Cubanos Postizos (The Prosthetic Cubans), where he interprets his style in songs by Cuban musician Arsenio Rodríguez.
