Mads Mikkelsen (Copenhagen, November 22, 1965) is a Danish actor who won the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival thanks to his impressive performance in Jagten. He is known for playing the role of Hannibal Lecter in the television series Hannibal; for participating in the Pusher cult film and its sequel; and for making Le Chiffre, the villain of Casino Royale, the 21st film in the James Bond saga.

Mads Mikkelsen’s Biography

After studying at the theater school in Århus, he made his debut in the film Pusher (1996). He starred in several Danish films such as Blinkende Lygter, De Grønne Slagtere, his debut film Pusher and Pusher II. The role for which he became known in his homeland was that of a policeman in the Danish television series Rejseholdet. In 2003 he starred in the movielove you forever (Open Hearts). The following year in 2004, he made the leap to American cinema with the movie King Arthur produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. In 2006 he played the villain Le Chiffre in the James Bond movie Casino Royale. Later he starred Adam’s apples (2005), After the wedding and Prag (2006).

In 2008 he played Jørgen Haagen Schmith in the film Flame and Citrón and the composer Igor Stravinsky in Chanel & amp; Stravinsky in 2009. That same year he starred in Valhalla Rising by Nicolas Winding Refn. In 2010, he joined the cast of Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans. In 2011 he appeared as the villain in the movie The Three Musketeers, by Paul W.S. Anderson.

In 2012 came one of his most brilliant works with the film Jagten by Thomas Vinterberg, nominated at the Oscars for best non-English speaking film. His performance earned him the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2013 he starred in a period drama based on real events, A Real Affair, directed by Nikolaj Arcel and co-written by Lars von Trier. She was nominated for best non-English speaking film at the Golden Globes and Oscar, representing Denmark. In this role he demonstrates once as in the previous film, one of the best roles of his career. That same year he starred Michael Kohlhaas, work for which he was nominated as best actor in the César Awards, and Charlie Countryman.

Between 2013 and 2015 he starred in the NBC television series Hannibal, as Dr. Hannibal Lecter with actor Hugh Dancy as FBI special agent Will Graham, an expert in making profiles of serial killers.

In 2016 it appeared in the Death Stranding trailer and it was confirmed that it will be part of the cast along with Norman Reedus and Guillermo del Toro, Mikkelsen being the antagonist of the new play by Japanese designer Hideo Kojima. He participated with important roles in two Hollywood blockbusters, Doctor Strange and the Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

In mid-2017 it was confirmed that he will participate in the film adaptation of Chaos Walking, together with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, scheduled to premiere in 2019 and could be the first part of a trilogy.
