Lukas Nelson (United States, December 25, 1988) is an American musician son of Willie Nelson and leader of the Promise of the Real group. The group includes Anthony Logerto (drums), Corey McCormick (bass), and Tato Melgar (percussion).

Lukas Austry Nelson moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to attend Loyola Marymount University. Early the next year, he met drummer Anthony Logerfo at a Neil Young concert and they started playing together in Seal Beach (California). In October of the same year, Lukas left the University to start a musical career like his father. For this, he formed the group Promise of the Real with Logerfo, Tato Melgar (percussion) and Merlyn Kelly (bassist).

The group offered their first concerts in the fall of 2008 and published the EP Live Begginings to pay the tour costs. The album included live songs recorded in Solana Beach (California). In January 2009, the group began a nine-concert tour supporting Willie Nelson, with five stops at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and supporting BB King for two weeks, with concerts between Colorado and Nebraska.

In April 2009, they released their first studio EP, entitled Brando’s Paradise Sessions. His brother Micah designed the cover of the album and drawings for the stage. Shortly after, bassist Merlyn Kelly left the group to undertake other activities and was temporarily replaced by John Avila, before finding Corey McCormick. In December 2010, they released the LP Promise of the Real, recorded at the Pedernales Studios in Austin, Texas, in March. The album was a tribute to two of the musical influences of Lukas, Jimi Hendrix and Neil Young, with versions of «Pali Gap». “Hey Baby” and “LA.” The album also included a version of “Peaceful Solution,” co-written by Lukas and his father Willie. Lukas’ aunt, Bobbie Nelson, played the piano on “Fathers and Mothers.”

Lukas promoted Promise of the Real with an extensive tour of the United States in 2011, with appearances at festivals such as Stagecoach, Farm Aid, Bridge School Benefit and Country Throwdown Tour. In addition, they participated in television programs such as The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Late Show with David Letterman.

In April 2012, they released their second studio album, Wasted, followed by another tour that began on April 6 at the Antone’s Nightclub in Austin On May 1, Live Nation announced that Lukas and Promise of the Real they would act as support band for John Fogerty on his tour during September 2012.
