Louis Cameron Gossett Jr. , better known as Louis Gossett Jr. (New York, United States, May 27, 1936) is an American actor who won a Oscar Awards and a Golden Globe for the film An Officer and a Gentleman (1982).

First Years

Louis Gossett, Jr. was born in Sheepshead Bay, Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. He grew up with his mother, Hellen Rebecca Wray Gossett, and his father, Louis Gossett. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of New York, in a scholarship athletics test. With a height of 1.93 m, he became a star basketball player during his college years at the University of New York. The New York Knicks were so impressed with Gossett’s sporting ability that they offered him a professional contract upon graduation. He played briefly with them in 1959, before choosing to focus completely on his acting career, which was what he was passionate about.

Consecration to the life of an actor

Already as an actor, he is remembered for having participated in the famous tv series Roots (1977) in the role of Fiddler: this performance led him to win an Emmy. There are multiple appearances in TV series, as in one of the chapters of the famous American series “The Ingalls Family” or “The Little House on the Prairie”. Miniseries and films like the miniseries Sadat (1983, about the life of the president of Egypt) and The powers of Matthew Star in 1982-1983.

In the cinema, he played a leading role in George Cukor’s comedy “Traveling with my aunt” (1972), and in 1982 he received his consecration on the big screen working with Richard Gere and Debra Winger in the box office film Oficial y gentleman playing the character of straight and hard Sergeant Foley. In 1986 he filmed Iron Eagle, a war action film that gave rise to a whole saga of 4 films in total; the following deliveries were Iron Eagle II (1988), Aces: Iron Eagle III (1992) and Iron Eagle on the atack (1995).

Also, in 1989 he co-starred with Dolph Lundgren The Punisher and in 1991 Toy Soldiers.

Gossett Jr. continues to be a sought-after actor in both film and television until today.
