Oscar Alberto Cruz (Berisso, May 14, 1941-Buenos Aires, December 19, 2017), better known as Lito Cruz , was a film actor , theater and television and Argentine theater director, winner of the Martín Fierro prize.

His theatrical activity begins at age 15 in independent groups in his hometown. At the end of high school, in La Plata, he continues his work in self-management groups. In 1961 he moved to Buenos Aires, where he shared his theater studies, with the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and it was here that he began his first professional works as an actor, from 1961 to 1964, debuting as an actor at age 18 at the Tafs theater from the city of Rojas, Province of Buenos Aires.

In 1965 he travels to Chile to perfect his theater studies at the ITUCH (University Theater Institute of Chile), the most important school in Latin America at that time. In 1968 he returned to Buenos Aires and began his most important works as an actor in Theater. In 1969, he founded the ETEBA Group (Experimental Theater Team of Bs. As.) With Augusto Fernandes, culminating this experience with a performance by the group with the play La Leyenda de Pedro, based on the piece Peer Gynt by Ibsen, playing the leading role . This show caused great commotion in Europe, participating in the Festivals of Nancy, Berlin and Florence. In 1972, the same group participates in the Olympics in Munich, with the play The Toad and The Serpent, based on a Greek story and directed by Augusto Fernandes.

He began his activity in teaching, as Professor of Acting at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art. In this same year he begins his career as Theater Director, with the work El pupilo quiere ser autor, written by Peter Handke. From this moment until 1975 his activity is divided between teaching, acting and directing, as well as his studies of improvement of performance carried out abroad, mainly in the Actors Studio of Lee Strasberg, having been awarded a scholarship by the government of the United States. Hired by the Goulvenkian Foundation of Portugal, he made an Acting Seminar in 1975 at the University Theater of Porto, culminating with a performance by the working group. In 1993 and until 1993 he continues his trajectory, assuming the Direction of the Theater of the Bank, realizing a communitarian work integrating the theater in the districts.

In 1995, he became the director of the National Direction of Theater, a branch of the Ministry of Culture of the Presidency of the Nation.

A few years ago he was awarded several regional awards.

He died in his apartment in the neighborhood of Barrio Norte, on December 19, 2017.
