Lena Copeland Baskette artistically known as Lina Basquette (April 19, 1907 – September 30, 1994) was an American film actress.

Lina_Basquette’s Biography

Her real name was Lena Copeland Baskette , and she was born in San Mateo (California). Before acting in the cinema, Lena danced with the Ziegfeld Follies in New York. Basquette began acting in the cinema when he was 9 years old, in 1916. His first performance took place in What Can Love Do. In 1929 he shot The Godless Girl with Cecil B. DeMille and The Younger Generation, directed by Frank Capra.

In 1925 he married Sam Warner, of the Warner Bros. company, considered The Father of Sound Cinema. At 20 years of age he became widowed, as Warner died of a brain abscess complicated by pneumonia. They had a daughter. Basquette attempted suicide in 1930, after a legal battle over the custody of her daughter, a lawsuit she lost to the Warner brothers.

Basquette’s career lasted until the 1990s. In 1991 Lina was chosen to shoot Paradise Park, Daniel Boyd’s film. In the film, he played a grandmother, and the country music stars Porter Wagoner and Johnny Paycheck worked there.

Lina Basquette died in Wheeling, West Virginia, from cancer.

Lina Basquette was a half sister to actress Marge Champion. In 1928 she was named one of the thirteen WAMPAS Baby Stars. In his tribute there is a star with his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 1529 Vine Street
