Lilia Larios Fernandez , known as Lilia Michel (Teapa, Tabasco, Mexico, July 30, 1926 – Mexico City, August 10, 2011), was an actress who worked in the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. In her time she was known as “The Girl in the Sweater,” in remembrance of the American actress Lana Turner, who was also called that. He won two Ariel Awards from the Mexican Film Academy.
Lilia Michel’s Biography
Lilia Larios Fernández was born in Teapa, Tabasco, Mexico. He studied in the drama school of Mexico, founded by Seki Sano, in which many actors like Ricardo Montalbán, Víctor Junco, Miroslava Stern and María Douglas emerged. His debut was in the last film of the diva Lupe Vélez, Naná (1944), where he played a secondary role. During the filming of his next work, Así es ellas (1944) he meets the actor Rafael Baledón, with whom he married the same year and with his third film, A Kiss in the Night (1945), he gets his first Ariel. In 1945, the director Julio Bracho chooses her to replace Carmen Montejo, in the filming of the film Twilight, which he had left three days after filming began due to illness, it is thanks to this role that critics praise it, erasing to the main protagonist: Gloria Marin, the following year she manages to be a co-star of María Félix in the film Vértigo (1946), with which she has again favorable reviews and wins her second Ariel, despite having achieved these triumphs. Lilia decides to retire gradually from acting and dedicating herself to her family, she and Rafael Baledón were a model couple for the middle class sectors, and they even had their own radio program, in which anecdotes about their marriage were told. They remained married until the death of Rafael in 1994. They had five children: Rafael (also actor and director), Leonor, Ana Laura, Lourdes and Lilia.
Lilia returned to acting in the late sixties, making small appearances in theater, film and television, until her definitive retirement in 1998. She married for the second time the actor Wolf Ruvinskis, months before he died in 1999. In his last years he devoted his time to painting. He died a victim of a fulminating heart attack on August 10, 2011 in Mexico City.
