Lewis Niles Black (Silver Spring, Maryland, August 30, 1948) is an American comedian, actor and writer. He is known for his comedy style, which often includes the simulation of a mental breakdown, or an increasingly angry speech, ridiculing history, politics, religion, trends and cultural phenomena. He was the host of the television program Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil of Comedy Central, and participates in The Daily Show with a section called “Back in Black”.
Lewis Black’s Biography
Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, the son of Jeannette and Sam Black, who were of Jewish origin, he studied at the University of North Carolina, and after graduating he began to work as a playwright, influenced by Beolco, Molière and Dario. Fo. He wrote about forty plays. During this period he started doing live comedy.
In 1998 he starred in one of the episodes of the Comedy Central Presents program, where he made one of his humorous routines. Black again participated in the program twice more, in 2000 and 2002. In 2004, he recorded a live comedy routine for HBO, entitled Black on Broadway. Two years later he recorded another special, entitled Red, White, and Screwed. He has won two Grammy awards in the category of best comedy album, for his discs The Carnegie Hall Performance (2007) and Stark Raving Black (2011).
In addition to his work as a comedian, he has contributed his voice in several series and animated films. He played Mobrain in the series Duck Dodgers, the Mortal Duplicator in Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Ted in My Gym Partner’s to Monkey and Mr. E in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. He played a character in the animated film Farce of the Penguins, in 2006. He worked in the movie Inside Out (2015), by Pixar, where he played Furia /Ira.
