Leo Joseph Klotz (1895 – March 2, 1984) was a botanist American mycologist, and a noted phytopathologist who started at the University of New Hampshire in 1923. Authority in citrus diseases, achieving the “Citrus Experiment Station” of the University of California being a renowned citrus center.
Served in the First World War from November 1917 to March 1919, with five months in France. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Michigan State College, the last in 1921. He was a Field Assistant to the USDA in the Bureau of Plant Industry, working on cereal studies in Michigan in 1921. He then became a Research Fellow. Rufus J. Lackland at the Missouri Botanical Garden, and obtained his doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis in 1923, and where he is interested in the physiology of plant pathology. Earned by Opposition to be Assistant Professor in Botany and Assistant Botanist at the Experimental Station of the University of New Hampshire, working until 1925. He is awarded a Scholarship from the “National Research Council” as an Associate Researcher at the “Riverside Citrus Experimental Station” “, from 1925 to 1928. And it will be by contest Assistant Phytopathologist of Dr. Howard S. Fawcett, then Head of Department, in the Experimental Station”, continuing there until his retirement of 34 years d career.
