Ken Norton’s Biography

As a professional he won his first 16 bouts but fell in the next against Venezuelan boxer Jose Luis Garcia, but overcame his next thirteen matches. These 29 victories, for only one defeat. In 1973, he was given the opportunity to fight for the NABF title against the famous boxer Muhammad Ali, whom he won in 12 rounds for points, although in the rematch six months later he lost for the same result.

The following year he had the chance to win the titles of the World Boxing Association and the World Boxing Council against George Foreman but he won in two rounds after being shot down on three occasions during the staged bout in the Poliedro from Caracas. In 1975 after winning two bouts, he played the NABF title, which Ali had vacated, before Jerry Quarry who won in five rounds by technical knockout. Then he went back to winning four consecutive matches and had another chance to get the Association and Council title against Ali but lost again by unanimous decision in fifteen rounds.

After this defeat, he won three more bouts to win the WBC Heavyweight title, subsequently losing it to 28-year-old Larry Holmes in fifteen rounds and was rated by many experts as one of the best of all. the times within the category of heavyweights, this fight was made in 1978, in which Norton was 34 years old. After this defeat and already in frank decline due to his age, he played five more matches, against Earnie Shavers and Gerry Cooney among others and lost to these two by knockout in the first round. He also tied another against Scott LeDoux after being knocked down twice in the tenth round.
