Lutz is, by age, in the middle of six brothers and a sister, but curiously he is the tallest of them all. He is of German descent, and during his childhood he lived in various places, especially in the Midwest and Arizona. After graduating from high school, he moved to California to attend Chapman University to study chemical engineering, but later decided to pursue acting instead, although his parents disagreed.
