Jules Munshin’s Biography

Born in New York City, he gained fame as a stage actor representing the work Call Me Mister on the Broadway circuit. Other Munshin theatrical works were The Gay Life and Barefoot in the Park.

Although Munshin enjoyed success in MGM musicals like Easter Parade and Take Me Out to the Ball Game, the public will always remember him as one of the three sailors (the others were Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra) singing “New York, New York “in the film A Day in New York (1949). Another one of its outstanding papers was the one of Bibinski, a Russian commissar in the beauty of Moscow (1957).

Jules Munshin died in New York in 1970, due to acute myocardial infarction, three days before his 55th birthday. He was buried in the Long Island National Cemetery.
