Jorge Luis Valdivia Toro (Maracay, Venezuela, October 19, 1983) is a Chilean soccer player born in Venezuela. Play as midfielder in Colo-Colo of the First Division of Chile. In addition, he is an absolute international with the National Football Team of Chile.

Of father and mother of Chilean origin, his older brother Luis was born in Santiago, as well as his half brother Hugo Bravo Toro (former player of Palestino and Universidad de Chile). The birth of Jorge in Venezuela is due to the fact that Luis Valdivia, the father of Jorge Valdivia, worked in the Santiago airport offices for Lan Chile in which they proposed a transfer for “some years” to Maracay in Venezuela, in that country he only works 2 years where Jorge Valdivia was born and then he returned to Chile where Jorge would learn to play soccer in the inferiors of the Chilean Club Colo-Colo.

He is considered one of the most talented midfielders that Chile has ever given, even the once known soccer player Carlos Valderrama declared Valdivia one of the best players in the world in 2008. However, various acts of indiscipline throughout his career they have marred his image.

Valdivia was formed in the lower divisions of Colo-Colo, but in the absence of opportunities in the first team was transferred to Universidad de Concepción, club with which debuted in the Chilean first division in 2003. After brief stays in the European football, in countries such as Spain or Switzerland, returned to Colo-Colo in 2005, where it was consolidated as one of the best players in the local media, being one of the figures albas in the conquest of the opening tournament the following year. After obtaining the title, he signed for the Palmeiras of Brazil, where he managed to clinch as a starter after a difficult start, forming part of the ideal American team of 2007. In 2008, he was proclaimed champion of the Paulista Championship, being elected the best player In August of that year he was transferred to the Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates, [11] where he stayed for two seasons, getting three titles. [12] After the first campaign, in addition, he was elected a better foreigner. [13] After his passage through the Arabian Peninsula, he returned to Palmeiras, in mid-2010, [14] obtaining in this second stage titles such as the 2012 Brazil Cup or a Serie B Championship. [15 ] [16] In 2015, despite speculation that they were aiming for a renewal with the São Paulo cast, [17] their return to the United Arab Emirates is confirmed with their transfer to Al-Wahda. [18]

He is an absolute international with the Chilean team. His regularity in the team, however, has been diminished by some acts of indiscipline in which he has been involved, such as “Puerto Ordazo” [19] or “Bautizazo”, [20] which have carried several suspension games. [21] [22] He has played two adult World Cups, plus three editions of Copa América. Participated in the achievement of the first title in the history of the national team: Copa América 2015.

Among his many anecdotes, he highlights the impact of the news of his “express kidnapping” with his wife Daniela Aránguiz of which they were victims in the city of São Paulo in June 2012 while they were both traveling in their car, in which they were held for two hours and were forced to deliver money and make purchases. [23] Upon their release, they immediately traveled to Chile. Valdivia, also, thought seriously about leaving the country and immediately received offers from various clubs, including Colo Colo. [23] The author of the kidnapping was arrested a few days later by the police. [24]
