Jon Fishman Short Bio
Jon Fishman (born February 19, 1965) is an American drummer known for his work with Phish. He has participated in the composition of eighteen songs by Phish, seven of them only.
Fishman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was adopted and grew up in Syracuse, New York with a Jewish family. Fishman was passionate about drums from a young age, emulating John Bonham, Led Zeppelin’s drummer, Bill Bruford of Yes and Keith Moon of The Who. He attended the Jamesville-Dewitt Institute in a suburb of Syracuse, and after graduating in 1983, attended the University of Vermont for a year, where he co-founded Phish. He then moved with guitarist Trey Anastasio to Goddard College, where he did the thesis “A Self-Teaching Guide to Drumming in Retrospect”.
