Jim_Hutton’s Biography

Her full name was Dana James Hutton ‘, and she was born in Binghamton (New York).

While Hutton was acting in the theater in Germany serving for the United States Army, he was discovered by film director Douglas Sirk. One of his first performances for the screen took place in an episode of Dimension Desconocida (1959), in which Rod Taylor also participated. In Hollywood he became popular with young audiences for his role in the film Where the Boys Are (1960), where he starred opposite Paula Prentiss, an actress with whom he worked on several of his early films, in part due to the high stature of both of them. Thus, also acted with her in The Honeymoon Machine (1961), Bachelor in Paradise (1961, with Bob Hope and Lana Turner), and The Horizontal Lieutenant (1962). In 1966 Hutton gained a greater fame thanks to its work in Walk, Do not Run, with Samantha Eggar and Cary Grant in its last film. Due to his height and lanky appearance, Hutton was seen as a possible successor to James Stewart.

In addition to being a gifted comedic actor, Hutton also played dramatic roles, such as the Western directed by Sam Peckinpah in 1965 Major Dundee. In 1968 Hutton acted in the war film directed and performed by John Wayne The Green Berets. That same year he returned to work with John Wayne in Hellfighters, playing Greg Parker. Another outstanding title of his career was the western The Hallelujah Trail (1965).

In the early 1970s Hutton began working almost exclusively for television, and played the role of Ellery Queen in the telefilm of 1975 that gave rise to the series issued between 1975 and 1976 Ellery Queen. Hutton worked on the series with David Wayne, who played his father.

On June 2, 1979 Jim Hutton died in Los Angeles, California, from hepatocarcinoma, two days after his 45th birthday. He was buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. His son, actor Timothy Hutton, dedicated his Oscar to the best supporting actor received in 1980 to the memory of his father.
