James ‘Jim’ Harrison (December 11, 1937-26 March 2016) was an American writer. He wrote poetry, fiction novels, essays, interviews and even cookbooks.

Jim_Harrison’s Biography

Harrison was born in Grayling, Michigan, where his father, Winfield Sprague Harrison, was a county agricultural agent. His mother was Norma Oliva Wahlgre Harrison.

He became blind in one eye in his childhood. When he was 21 years old he lost his father and sister in a car accident. After a few years he went to college at Michigan State, where he graduated and worked for some time as a teacher. Not very convinced of his career as a teacher, he published his first book of poems.

His works appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone, Outside, Playboy, Men’s Journal and The New York Times Magazine. He published several collections of novels, including the famous Legends of the Fall (1979) (Legends of passion, 2010), which was twice adapted to film: Revenge (1990) and Legends of the Fall (1994).

Many of Harrison’s writings deal with regional and popular North American themes, from places like the Nebraska areba Cikubas, the Michigan peninsula, and the mountains of Montana.

He lived between the city of Patagonia, in the state of Arizona, and Montana.
