James Eugene “Jim” Carrey Oram (Newmarket, Ontario, January 17, 1962) is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, singer and writer. He is known for his performances with slapstick humor, and for his acting work won two Golden Globe Awards and was a candidate for a BAFTA Award.

His path as an interpreter began in the late 1970s, when he began acting as a live comedian at the Yuk Yuk’s club in Toronto. After gaining some prestige, in 1981 he started working at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, where he was seen by comedian Rodney Dangerfield, who immediately signed with him the opening of his performances tours. Carrey, with a lot of interest in film and television, developed a close friendship with the comedian Damon Wayans, who got him a role in the hit humor show In Living Color, in which he played several characters during 1990.

After success in television series and several low-budget films, he starred in the comedy Ace Ventura, which premiered in February 1994 and grossed just over $ 72 million in the US The movie had a sequel in 1995 entitled Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, in which he repeated the role of pet detective. He was followed by other successful roles such as Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a comedy or musical, Lloyd Christmas in the 1994 film Dumb and Dumber; and to Fleetcher Reed in Liar Liar of 1997. In 1999 and 2000 he won the Golden Globe for his performances in The Truman Show and Man on the Moon, respectively.

Since winning both awards, Carrey continued to star in comedies, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Bruce Almighty (2003), Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), Fun with Dick and Jane (2005), Yes Man (2008), A Christmas Carol (2009) and Mr. Popper’s Penguins (2011). He also played dramatic roles, including Joel Barish in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), along with Kate Winslet and Kirsten Dunst, who gave him another Golden Globe nomination, and Steven Jay Russell in I Love You Phillip Morris (2009 ). In 2014 he starred in the sequel to Dumb & amp; Dumber, Dumb and Dumber To, which was a hit at the box office.

He married twice, first with Melissa Womer, with whom he married from 1987 to 1995, and then with actress Lauren Holly, with whom he only lived for a year. Later, Carrey got acquainted with the actresses Renée Zellweger, whom he met during the filming of the movie Me, Myself & amp; Irene, the director Laurie Holden and the model Jenny McCarthy. In 2012 he began a relationship with Cathriona White, who died of an overdose of drugs in 2015.
