Jefferson Airplane Short Bio

Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band born in the city of San Francisco (California), a pioneer of the psychedelic movement influenced by LSD. It was one of the first bands in the San Francisco scene to enjoy commercial and critical success.

In the late 1960s, Jefferson Airplane was one of the highest-paid bands in the entire United States. Their albums were internationally successful and they were sold in great quantity, and they had two hits in the American Top 10 plus a string of albums that were placed in the Top 20. Their 1967 album, Surrealistic Pillow, is still considered one of the main ones works of the so-called “Summer of Love”, and brought the group’s international recognition (as well as two hits, “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit”)

The successor bands to Jefferson Airplane include Jefferson Starship and Starship, and parallel bands Hot Tuna (formed by Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady) and KBC Band (formed by Paul Kantner, Marty Balin and Jack Casady). Jefferson Airplane was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
