Jeanne Calment was born in Arles on February 21, 1875. Her father, Nicolas Calment (January 28, 1838 – January 22, 1931), was a boat builder, and her mother, Marguerite Guilles (20 February 1838-18 September 1924), belonged to a family of millers.
