Jean Seberg’s Biography
She was born in Marshalltown, in the state of Iowa. Her biggest wish was to be a film actress. He studied at the University of Iowa and then got the lead role in the film Joan of Arc, directed by Otto Preminger in 1957. According to the existing documentation, for this role were received offers of 18,000 candidates.
The following year, Seberg made his second film, also with Preminger: Good morning, sadness (Bonjour tristesse), adaptation of the successful novel by Françoise Sagan. A year later he starred with Jean-Paul Belmondo in the wonderful film At the end of the escape (À bout de souffle), by Jean-Luc Godard, one of the landmarks of the Nouvelle Vague and which made her an actress known in Europe. He did not have the same luck in the United States, so he continued working in Europe. He made numerous films, some of them with the best directors, but with variable success.
She was a sympathizer of the Black Panthers, a fact that brought her certain complications with the most reactionary sectors of Hollywood, who orchestrated campaigns against her, making the hoax that she was pregnant with a leader of the Black Panthers. It even came under the surveillance of the FBI.
Seberg sometimes returned to the United States to film a film, including Lilith (1964), a murky psychological drama with Warren Beatty, and the famous musical musical The Legend of the Nameless City (1969), with Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin.
Seberg was married four times. His first three marriages ended in divorce. In 1979, before she was 41 years old, she died in circumstances that were not completely clear.
His body was found inside a car parked on a street in the Parisian neighborhood of Passy. It seems that Seberg was a more fragile and vulnerable person than he appeared and committed suicide with an overdose of barbiturates. His daughter Nana had died two days after birth and Seberg never recovered from the blow. They found his body in what appeared to be his eighth suicide attempt. At 16 months, her husband, the writer Romain Gary, also committed suicide.
