Janet Wood Reno (Miami, Florida, United States, July 21, 1938-ibid., November 7, 2016) was United States Attorney General from 1993 to 2001. She was nominated by President of the United States Bill Clinton on February 11, 1993 and confirmed on March 11. She was the first woman to hold the position and the second person to occupy it for a longer time.

Janet Reno’s Biography

Reno attended public school in Miami-Dade County, Florida. In 1956 he enrolled at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, choosing Chemistry as his subject. He lived in Balch Hall and became president of the Women’s Self-Government Association.

In 1960, Janet Reno enrolled in Harvard Law School as one of six women in the class of more than 500 students. He obtained his law degree three years later.

Reno was named Director of the Florida House of Representatives Legal Committee in 1971. She helped review the Florida court system. In 1973 he accepted a position in the DA’s office in Dade County. During this time, accusations about his sexual orientation were used by his opponent Jack Thompson in his campaign against Reno. She won the election with 69 & nbsp;% of the votes. He left the Attorney General’s office in 1976 to partner with a private law firm.

In 1978 she was appointed attorney general for Dade County (now called Miami-Dade). She was elected in November 1978 and re-elected four times more. It helped to reform the juvenile justice system and persecuted delinquent parents for the fulfillment of child support payments. He also established the Miami Drug Court.

During her time in Dade County, she was the lead attorney in a case of police brutality. He failed to convict any of the officers accused of beating Arthur McDuffie in 1979. [citation & nbsp; required]

Janet Reno was criticized for prosecuting alleged sex offenders during her time in the Tax Office, and her actions were described as a “crusade” with actions such as manipulation during the interrogation of minor witnesses. [citation & nbsp; required] She was involved in the trial of 14-year-old Bobby Fijnje, accused of abuses committed during satanic rites, who was acquitted later.

In 1995, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He died due to complications of this disease in November 2016.
