Janice Kay «Jan» Brewer (pronounced / dʒænɪs keɪ (dʒæn) bɹuːəɹ /; September 26, 1944) is an American policy and governor of the state of Arizona between 2009 and 2015. Being a member of the Republican Party, Brewer previously served as Arizona’s Secretary of State from January 2003 until then-Governor Janet Napolitano resigned her post shortly after being named Secretary of Homeland Security in January 2009. Brewer became governor of Arizona , as part of the line of succession, as determined in the State Constitution. Arizona was in the midst of the worst fiscal crisis in every state in the country.

Brewer became known nationally and internationally when on April 23, 2010, he signed the controversial Arizona SB1070 law against illegal immigration, which criminalizes undocumented subjects required by federal law, and punishes those who give them refuge. , work or transport.

Brewer launched his candidacy seeking a full term in the 2010 government elections, which he won by defeating Democrat Terry Goddard with 55% of the vote. In this way he became the 22nd governor of the state and the third woman to take the post consecutively.
