Jacques André Simonet , better known by his stage name of Jacques Perrin , (Paris, July 13, 1941) is a French film actor and producer .

He is the son of the theater director of the Comédie-Française Maxence Perrin and the actress Mathieu Simonet, since his childhood he grew up in a theatrical environment. Jacques Perrin studied at the Conservatory of Dramatic Art, where he received classes from Jean Yonnel. Soon it will intervene in theatrical productions. In the cinema he will receive his first important role in the film The ragazza with the valigia (The girl with the suitcase, 1960) by Valerio Zurlini. With this same director will shoot in 1962 Cronaca familiare (Family Chronicle), film based on a novel by Vasco Pratolini and in which Perrin will share the spotlight with Marcello Mastroianni.

In 1968 he founded his own film production company, Reggane Films, which finances films such as Z de Costa-Gavras (1968) or Le Crabe-tambour by Pierre Schoendoerffer (1977). In Z Perrin he was not only a co-producer, but also an actor, along with Jean-Louis Trintignant, Yves Montand and Irene Papas. The film won the Oscar for best non-English speaking film in 1969.
Although he continued to perform in films such as Cinema Paradiso (Giuseppe Tornatore, 1989) and Los chicos del chorho (Christophe Barratier, 2004), his professional work has focused on film production: he has financed highly successful films such as the documentary on the life of the insects Microcosmos: le peuple de l’herbe (Microcosm, directed by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Pérennou, 1995), with which Perrin won the César prize for the best producer, Himalaya, l’enfance d’un chef (Himalaya) , Éric Valli, 1999) or the documentary on the migration of the birds Le Peuple migrateur (Nómadas del viento, 2001), which Perrin co-directed with Jacques Cluzaud and Michel Debats.
Perrin’s children, Mathieu Simonet (born in 1975) and Maxence Perrin (1995), are also actors. Maxence intervened with his father in the movie The Boys of the Choir, in which he played the child Pépinot.
