Monroe Jackson Rathbone V (n. Singapore, December 14, 1984), better known as Jackson Rathbone , is an American actor and musician, best known for his role as Jasper Hale in the film adaptation of the Twilight saga written by Stephenie Meyer and for playing the character of Sokka in The Last Airbender.
Rathbone, son of Randee Lynn (née Brauner) and Monroe Jackson Rathbone IV, was born in Singapore on December 14, 1984. Due to his father’s work for the oil company Mobil, he has lived in places ranging from Indonesia to Midland, Texas has three sisters: two older (Ryann and Kelly) and one younger (Brittney). His sister Kelly is an internationally renowned ceramics artist and sculptor. His great-grandfather, Monroe Jackson Rathbone II, was the president of Standard Oil of New Jersey, which later became Exxon. Jackson is a descendant of Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson, Confederate general of West Virginia.
He started at the local theater in Midland, Texas with the young actors program “The Pickwick Players”, initially to make musical theater. Rathbone attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, a private arts school in Michigan, where he specialized in acting. After graduating, he had planned to go to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, but instead headed to Los Angeles to experiment with action movies.
