Jack Brabham (April 2, 1926, Hurstville – May 19, 2014, Sidney) was a pilot and owner of Australian motorsport team. He was champion of Formula 1 drivers in 1959, 1960 and 1966, runner-up in 1967 and fifth in 1970, achieving a total of 14 victories, 31 podiums and 13 pole positions.
Brabham also frequently contested the Tasman Series, being runner-up in 1964 and 1967, and third in 1965, against drivers such as Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme. In 1961 he was ninth in the Indianapolis 500 with a rear center engine Cooper and only 270 CV. The Australian ran in 1958 for David Brown in the World Endurance Championship, triumphing in the 1000 km of the Nürburgring. In 1970 he was an official pilot of Matra in the World Resistance Championship, where he won a class victory in the 1000 km of Monza. Years later he disputed the 1000 km of Bathurst, arriving sixth in 1978.
Also, the Australian founded the Brabham Racing Organization team and the motor racing manufacturer Motor Racing Developments with Ron Tauranac. The pilot ran in Formula 1 for his own team from 1962 until his retirement in 1970. He later founded the engine manufacturer Judd with John Judd.
Their three children were Geoff, Gary and David, they are also car racers. In turn, he was the grandfather of also young pilot Matthew Brabham, son of Geoff.
