Jack Arnold was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and Arnold directed numerous low-budget science fiction films. Jack Arnold began his career as a stage actor and documentary director, being nominated for an Oscar for best documentary by [With this hands]] (1950). He made his debut as feature film director with Girls in the Night (1953), a black film title starring Joyce Holden.

In the mid-1950s, he began a series of fetish movies. Among the best known, dramatic essay (1953) (a psychological thriller with Edward G. Robinson and John Forsythe), came from beyond (adaptation of a story by Ray Bradbury with Richard Carlson and Barbara Rush as protagonists), Women and the Monster (a 3-D movie starring Julie Adams and Richard Carlson) or his most remembered movie, The Incredible Waning Man. All of them were praised for their atmosphere and their extremely sophisticated scripts.

Apart from science fiction, Arnold touched on other topics. They can highlight westerns (such as Red Sundown) (1956), some drama (like Escala in Tokyo) (1958), with Lana Turner, and comedies, such as Un coup de gracia (1959), starring Peter Sellers and Jean Seberg . Also in this decade, he made different works on television as chapters for the series Peter Gunn, Látigo or Mr. Lucky. Later, he would alternate his works in the cinema, among which are several films starring Bob Hope, such as Bachelor in Paradise (1961) or A Baby Bottle at the UN (1964) with contributions to the small screen as Dr. Kildare, The Island from Gilligan, The Brady Bunch, McCloud, The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman, Vacation at Sea or Beauty and the Beast.

Arnold died of arteriosclerosis in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California at the age of 76. He was buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park.
