Jacquelyn Davette Velásquez is an American singer, writer, voice and actress. She was nominated for the Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award and winner of the Dove Award. Jaci is an interpreter of contemporary Christian music and Latin pop in Spanish and English. It has sold more than 10 million units, according to the RIAA, and has appeared in more than 50 magazine covers, including Latina Style, CCM Magazine, Estylo, Latingirl, Latina, People and People en Español. It has been the image of Pepsi, Doritos, Target, Frizz-Ease, and Helzberg Diamonds.

Velásquez grew up in an evangelical church where his parents sang. Her family has Spanish, Mexican, Arabic, French and Scottish ancestry.When she was ten years old, her parents decided to leave Houston to tour the country with her Christian music. On that tour, Jaci began her steps as a Christian singer.

He made his first album in 1996, which was platinum certified. After that, he has recorded five more albums in English, earning him 7 Dove prizes including New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

In 1998, he signed a contract with Sony Latino and under the direction of Rudy Pérez, he produced his first album in Spanish entitled Llegar A Ti, a consequence of that album, he obtained a good amount of Hispanic fans, especially Latin Americans. His first album in Spanish was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award, being the first Christian album to participate in these awards, setting a precedent in terms of religious music. At the same time, he records his first advertisements as an image for the Target supermarket chain. In 2001 he made his second album in Spanish entitled My Heart, staying in the top of the Billboard classification and winning a prize as a single of the year and being nominated again to a Latin Grammy Award. That same year Jaci participates in the recording of the theme and video “The Last Goodbye” with more than 30 artists in honor of those killed by the terrorist attacks of September 11.

Between her presentations in programs such as Cristina Show and Sábado Gigante, Jaci records two Christmas albums, one in English and one in Spanish. The latter, Christmas, allows him to obtain his sixth Dove Award, again in the album category of the year in Spanish. In 2002, the image of John Frieda’s prestigious hair products was chosen. That year also participates in his first film called Chasing Papi, sharing roles with the Colombian Sofía Vergara, the Puerto Rican Roselyn Sánchez and the Mexican Eduardo Verástegui. Velásquez gives a surprising turn to his career in Unspoken, because it shows a new look as well as a more sophisticated style in his songs. Days later, he releases his third album in Spanish “Milagro”, with the label of Sony Discos and that includes the main theme of Chasing Papi made by 20th Century Fox, becoming the first Hollywood movie with a completely Hispanic cast.

Jaci started her entrepreneurial career when she founded her own record label “Apostrophe Records” in 2004. She also receives a new Latin Billboard Award for her album “Milagro” in the Best Christian Album of the Year category and a Latin Grammy nomination in the Best Female Pop Vocal Album category. That year also marks the launch of his first compilation “My Musical History”, in addition to announcing the next release of “Beauty Has Grace”, finally made in May 2005, the same month he sings again in the White House before President George W. In the middle of that same year, the EP “Acoustic Favorites” was released that includes 5 favorite acoustic songs of the singer.

After 9 years, 2012 marks the return of Jaci to music in Spanish with a full disc in the language of Cervantes. “Buenas noches mi Sol” was released on August 27 and consists of 14 songs worked under the theme of lullabies.
