Isabella Janet Florentina Summers (London, England, October 31, 1980) is a British musician, composer and producer, known for being the keyboardist of the indie rock music group Florence and the Machine . In addition to this feature, Summers co-wrote up to five songs from the group on the album Lungs (2009), Best British album at the Brit Awards that year, as well as three others on the albums Ceremonials (2011) and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015).

When not on tour with Florence and the Machine, or in the studio with the group, Summers also writes, produces and performs remixes and songs for other artists such as Beyoncé, Juliette Lewis, Iggy Azalea, Jasmine Thompson, Nas, Cara Delevingne, Izzy Bizu, Pablo Dylan, Cosmo Mondo, Kacy Hill, Jessica Simpson, Chloe x Halle, Flux Pavilion, Maxine Ashley, Rita Ora, Judith Hill or Game.

Isabella Summers’s Biography

Summers lived his first years in London, meeting Florence Welch when Isabella started working as a nanny for Welch’s little sister, Grace. At nine years of age, Summers moved with his family to Aldeburgh, in Suffolk, where he went to the Woodbridge School in his teens, where he became interested in music.

In his college years, Summers returned to London, where he began the Fine Arts Degree at Central Saint Martins (CSM). He began to investigate his passion for music by buying a DJ set to work at the record tables and compose, while working for the Top of the Pops program and was a script and digitizer of some of Alan Parker’s works.

He soon began working as a musician with Dan Greenpeace in the All City Show program of XFM London, an experience that led him to buy his first MPC equipment, which he installed in his floor closet. With the help of some friends, he started working in his own studio in an old factory near Crystal Palace, where he started to do hip hop. During this time, Summers worked with artists such as Kashmere, The Iguana Man, IRS Crew, MBC Crew, Inja or The Last Skeptic. Years after coinciding in childhood, Summers and Welch would meet again, both in the Summers studio and in the CSM, as well as in the Camberwell College of Arts, to which Florence Welch attended.

From that friendship established with Welch, his participation in the group he would create in 2007, Florence and the Machine, would be born.
