Ilona Massey’s Biography

His real name was Ilona Hajmássy , and he was born in Budapest, at that time the Austro-Hungarian Empire and now Hungary. Received as “the new Dietrich,” she performed three films with Nelson Eddy, and worked with Lon Chaney Jr. on Frankenstein’s Meets the Wolf Man (1943), in the role of Baroness Frankenstein.

In 1949 he shot Amor en conserva with the Marx Brothers. It was Madame Egelichi, a fatal spy woman, and her interpretation inspired Milton Caniff in the creation of the spy Madame Lynx in the comic “Steve Canyon.” Caniff hired Massey to pose for him.

As of November 1, 1954, he presented the variety music program produced by DuMont Television Network The Ilona Massey Show. On the show she sang in a nightclub set, with music from the Irving Field Trio. The series was issued until 1955.

Massey died in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1974 because of cancer.
