Helen Macdonald is an English writer and naturalist and research fellow affiliated with the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge and is recognized as the author of H is for Hawk, who won the 2014 Samuel Johnson Award and the Costa Book.
Helen was educated at the University of Cambridge, from 2004 to 2007, a research fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge, and an affiliate research fellow at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, University of Cambridge.
He has written and narrated radio programs, and appeared in the documentary series BBC Four, Birds Britannia, in 2010. His books include Shaler Fish (2001), Hawk (2006), and H is for Hawk (2014).
In 2014, he won the Samuel Johnson Prize, for non-fiction by H is for Hawk The book – which also became a Sunday Times bestseller – describes the year that Macdonald spent training a hawk named Mabel; after the death of his father, and includes biographical material about the naturalist and writer T. H. White.
Macdonald also helped in the making of the film “10 X Murmuration” with the direction of Sarah Wood, as part of the 2015 Exhibition, at the Brighton Festival.
