Hayao Miyazaki Short Bio

Hayao Miyazaki (宮 崎 駿, Miyazaki Hayao ?, Bunkyō, Tokyo, Japan, January 5, 1941) is an animation film director, producer, animator, illustrator, manga artist and Japanese anime producer, internationally renowned and with a career of five decades. Along with Isao Takahata, he founded Studio Ghibli, a film and animation studio. He has been compared to Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg or Orson Welles, among his most popular animation films are titles such as Spirited Away (which exceeded Japan’s box office receipts and exceeded the success of Titanic, also won the prize as Film of the Year at the Academy Awards in Japan, and it was the first anime movie to win an Oscar Award), Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, The Traveling Castle and Ponyo on the Cliff. His films speak of the relationship of humanity with nature, technology and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic; the protagonists are regularly strong and independent girls and young women. In two of his films, The Castle of Cagliostro and The Castle in Heaven, traditional villains are presented, while in others, such as Nausicaä and Princess Mononoke (1997), the first animated film to win the category of Movie of the Year in the Japanese Academy Awards and, for a short time, the highest grossing in Japan, until it was eclipsed by Titanic the same year), there are morally ambiguous antagonists with positive characteristics. He co-wrote Arrietty and the world of the diminutives and The Hill of Poppies.

On September 1, 2013, he announced, through a statement from the company’s president, Koji Koshino, that his film El viento se levanta (released in Japan on July 20, 2013) would be his last feature film, and He would retire as director of animation projects for Ghibli, and in August 2014, the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Hollywood announced the award to Mizayaki of the honorary Oscar in recognition of his career. It was presented at the Oscars ceremony in January 2015. In 2002, the film critic Roger Ebert suggested that Miyazaki could be the best creator of animation films in history, and praised the depth and artistic level of his creations.

On February 25, 2017, Studio Ghibli officially confirmed the return of Miyazaki. Several media pointed out that this return will come hand in hand with an adaptation to the length of the short film Kemushi no Boro (Boro the caterpillar), hoping that the film will be ready before the Olympic Games in Tokyo, scheduled for 2020. On 10 August 2017, the studio reopened its doors. [11] [12]
