Gustavo Cerati Short Bio

Gustavo Adrián Cerati (Buenos Aires, Argentina, August 11, 1959 – September 4, 2014), was an Argentine musician, singer-songwriter, composer and record producer, vocalist and composer of Soda Stereo, considered one of the most influential and recognized musicians of Latin American rock and a legend of Latin American rock (see Soda Stereo # The mythical band of Latin rock).

He earned fame and international recognition for being the lead singer, guitarist and composer of the rock band Soda Stereo, one of the most important and influential bands of Latin music. After the dissolution of the band, he also obtained recognition and success in his solo career, which consists of five studio albums and various incursions along with other musicians. His path as a soloist began in the early nineties, in parallel to the band, due to a break that had taken the group after a severe crisis. In that instance, Cerati published his first solo album, Amor amarillo; but with the return of Soda Stereo his solo career was suspended until the band’s absolute dissolution.

After Soda Stereo, Cerati experimented with different styles, from electronic music (Colores Santos, Cerati and Melero, 1992) (Plan V) to symphonic music. In 2007 Soda Stereo returned on a tour called Me verás volver, after which its members resumed their activities separately. On May 15, 2010 he suffered an ischemic stroke, which left him in a coma for more than four years, dying on September 4, 2014 due to respiratory arrest at the ALCLA Clinic in Buenos Aires.

Throughout his career as a soloist he won and was nominated for numerous awards, including Latin Grammy, Konex, MTV and Gardel. On December 5, 2013, the musician was named Illustrious Citizen, a distinction that was granted by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires [11] in recognition of his career. In its September 2012 edition, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Cerati in the No. 3 position of the 100 best national rock guitarists.
