Green Day Short Bio

Green Day is an American pop punk rock band composed initially of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar and vocals), Mike Dirnt (bass and vocals) and Tré Cool (drums and chorus).

The original group from Berkeley, [11] California, was born prematurely in 1986 under the name of Sweet Children, with drummer John Kiffmeyer (better known as Al Sobrante). In 1989 they changed to the current name and shortly after the release of their first studio album (39 / Smooth), Tré Cool replaced Al Sobrante.

It was one of the groups that were born in the 924 Gilman Street club, a place frequented by local punk rock bands. His first publications were made through the independent record label Lookout!, [12] thanks to the successful sales of his first recordings, an important number of admirers was obtained. Some years later, in 1994 the band signed with Reprise Records, with this label they released the acclaimed Dookie. [13] With this new album the band brought the sound of the late 1970s to the next generation, in addition, the album it became an international success and has sold more than thirty million copies worldwide. Green Day along with other bands like The Offspring and Rancid, were those that produced the revival and popularization of the main interests in punk rock in the United States, as well as the culture itself, [16] [17] the massive sales produced the opening of a wave of pop punk and punk rock groups. Ten years later many of these sets are inactive or dissolved, while Green Day is still in full musical avant-garde with rock opera American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown of 2004 and 2009 respectively, both with a Grammy Award for best rock album. They published a trilogy of albums titled ¡Uno !, Dos! and ¡Tré!, released in September, November and December of 2012. Their latest album Revolution Radio went on sale on October 7, 2016. [18]

The US group has sold around 85 million copies worldwide. [19] [20] and more than 30 million copies alone in its country. [21] [22] In 2010, a theatrical adaptation of the American Idiot album on Broadway, the musical was nominated for Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Scenic Design, and has received positive comments in general. In mid-2011 the magazine Kerrang! he named them as the second most influential group to emerge in the last thirty years, just behind Metallica. [23] According to a public survey, in the biweekly publication of Rolling Stone, Green Day was chosen as the best punk ensemble in the story. [24]
