Hale began her acting career in the early 1920s, and is known for her character in Charlie Chaplin’s film The Chimera of Gold (1925).

Chaplin hired Hale for the role after seeing his performance in The Salvation Hunters that was also released in 1925. The chimera of gold temporarily transformed it into a star, but could not survive the transition from silent to sound film in 1929. She did not return to acting since 1928, although in the documentary Unknown Chaplin it is revealed that Chaplin hired her to act in the film Luces de la Ciudad (premiered in 1931) for a brief period after the dismissal of Virginia Cherrill; Hale managed to shoot approximately 7 minutes until Cherrill was hired again; These scenes were included in the DVD of the film and in Unknown Chaplin. According to her memoirs, she was the first choice to act in the movie El Circo, but another actress was hired.

Hale maintained a close relationship with Chaplin between the 20s and 30s. He devoted himself to dance, and got money from investments in Southern California. According to his memoirs, he also participated in Christian science.

Wrote a book about his experiences with Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin: Intimate Close-Ups. It was written in the 60s, but was not published until 1995, a decade after his death, when Heather Kiernan edited his manuscript and was published by The Scarecrow Press.
