George_Pal’s Biography

He was born in Cegléd, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, on February 1, 1908. Pal, who worked in Berlin – from where he had to flee from the Nazi threat – at the UFA film studios, also resided in Prague, Paris And Eindhoven, before moving to Hollywood at the end of 1939. Between 1941 and 1947, he produced Puppetoons – an animated series with puppets – for Paramount, and in 1951 he produced his first real action film, Destination Moon. He was honorary in 1944 for the “development of new methods and techniques” in the production of Puppetoons, was director of feature films such as Tom Thumb (1954), The Time Machine (1960), Atlantis, the Lost Continent (1961), The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) and 7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964), passed away in Beverly Hills, California, on May 2, 1980.
