Gail Davis’s Biography

Her real name was Betty Jeanne Grayson , and her father was a doctor in a small town. Born in a hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, she grew up in McGehee, Arkansas.

Already in his childhood he began to sing and dance. After graduating from high school, she studied at the Hakum Junior College for Girls in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, before completing her studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she met and married her first husband, Bob Davis, with who had a daughter, Terrie.

She and her husband moved to Hollywood, California, to pursue a career in the film industry, adopting their stage name there, at the suggestion of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer casting department.

In 1947 he made his film debut in a comic short film. After that, he played small roles in four films until getting in 1948 a supporting role in a western movie star Roy Rogers, The Far Frontier. Between 1948 and 1953, Davis starred in more than three dozen films, all westerns except three, including twenty titles with or for producer cowboy singer Gene Autry.

In 1950 she began to act as a guest artist in television westerns, highlighting the six times she acted in The Cisco Kid playing two different characters. She was also a guest artist on The Lone Ranger and The Adventures of Kit Carson (twice as Rose Banning). In addition, he performed more than a dozen times on The Gene Autry Show.

Between 1954 and 1956 Davis starred in the television series Annie Oakley, later broadcast on ABC. His castmates were Brad Johnson, in the role of Assistant Lofty Craig, and Jimmy Hawkins as Tagg, Annie Oakley’s younger brother. A right-handed amazon also traveled the country with the traveling rodeo of Gene Autry.

Davis and her second husband, Carl Edward Guerriero, retired to live in the San Fernando Valley, where she made guest appearances in reminiscent western shows and film festivals. His last public appearance took place in 1994, when he received the Golden Boot award from the Motion Picture and Television Fund.

Gail Davis, then a widow, died of cancer in Los Angeles, California, in 1997, at seventy-one years of age. She was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, California.

For his television work, Davis was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 6385 Hollywood Boulevard. In 2004, posthumously, he joined the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas.
