Fritz William Weaver (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, January 19, 1926 – Manhattan, New York, November 26, 2016) was an American voice, film, television and theater actor. He was awarded a Tony Award for his performance in the play Child’s Play.

Fritz Weaver’s Biography

First years

Weaver was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Elsa W. and John Carson Weaver. His mother was a descendant of Italians. He attended the Peabody High School (Peabody High School). Weaver served in the Civilian Public Service as a conscientious objector during World War II.


Weaver began his acting career in the early 1950s. His first television appearance was in 1956 in an episode of The United States Steel Hour. He acted on television for the next four decades, appearing in shows such as Dimension unknown (episodes “Third from the Sun” and “The Obsolete Man”), Dr. Kildare, The Agent of CIPOL, Rawhide, Mission: Impossible, Combat !, Gunsmoke , Mannix, Kung Fu, Hawaii Five-O, Magnum PI, Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, Law & amp; Order, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (episode “Court”), The X-Files and Frasier.

Weaver won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play and the Drama Desk Award for Best Performance for Child’s Play. Other works on Broadway include The Chalk Garden, for which he won the Theater World Award and was nominated again for the Tony Awards, All American, Baker Street, Absurd Person Singular, Love Letters, The Price and The Witch Salem. < /p>

Weaver has also appeared in several films, usually as a supporting actor. The most popular films in which he has participated are Marathon Man, Black Sunday, Creepshow and The Thomas Crown Affair. Other of his cinematographic works are Power, Mechanical Spawn, The Day of the Dolphin and Fail-Safe.

Since 1995, Weaver has worked primarily as a voice actor, doing storytelling for The History Channel shows.

Personal life

Weaver was married twice. He was the husband of Sylvia Short between 1953 and 1979. Until his death he was married to Rochelle Oliver. Weaver had two children from her first marriage, called Lydia and Anthony. Artistic director Mary Weaver Dodson is her sister.
