Fred Perry Short Bio

Frederick John Perry (Stockport, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, May 18, 1909 – Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, February 2, 1995) was a champion of table tennis and tennis British.

He began his sports career playing table tennis, becoming the world champion in 1929.

He then played tennis, where he was considered the number one in the world for five years during the 1930s, three of them as amateur and two as professional. He triumphed three times in the United States Open in 1933, 1934 and 1936, three in the Wimbledon Championship in 1934, 1935, 1936, one in the Australian Open in 1934 and one in the Roland Garros Tournament in 1935. < / p>

In 1933, Perry helped lead the British team to victory over France in the Davis Cup, then beat the United States in the 1934 and 1935 finals, and his fourth consecutive title with a victory over Australia in 1936.

After his retirement he founded the brand of sportswear that bears his name and is recognized worldwide for his logo, a laurel wreath, based on the ancient symbol of the Wimbledon tournament.
