Finley Quaye (March 25, 1974, Edinburgh, Scotland) is a British musician.

Son of the jazz musician Cab Kaye, and brother of Caleb Quaye and Terri Quaye. Although he was born in Edinburgh, Quaye went to school in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. In spite of everything, he left school. Before dedicating himself to music he worked painting cars, smoked fish, stuffing futons, etc.

Finley had received influences, thanks to his family, from jazz musicians like Pete King and Ronnie Scott, and Lionel Hampton. Finley listened to Jazz at home, as well as going to the Ronnie Scott Jazz school in London. Duke Ellington is his godfather of baptism, and is a major influence on the work of Quaye.

In the mid-90s Finley signed a solo contract with Polydor Records, forcing him to move to New York. After the break of this contract, begins to collaborate with Epic / Sony. At the end of 1997 it reaches the Top 20 of Great Britain twice, with “Sunday Shining”, and “Even After All”, two songs included in his album Maverick A Strike (September 1997), marked by an original but accessible style . This album (today multi-platinum) earned him a great victory in the BRIT Awards.

Two more albums appeared on Epic: Vanguard (2000) and Much More Than Much Love (2004). In 2004, the song “Dice”, in collaboration with William Orbit, achieved the status of “small hit”, due in part to its inclusion in the soundtrack of the series the OC, song that also appears in the television series Everwood . Quaye lives and works in Berlin since 2005. Her latest collaborations include working with A Guy Called Gerald & amp; The Stereo MCs.
