Federico_Luppi’s Biography

Luppi was born into a modest family of Italian descent, like many other actors, he went through various jobs before trying his luck in the theater. His initial vocation was art: he worked as an insurance broker and employed in a bank, but he preferred to draw. He enrolled in Fine Arts to study sculpture, but he left it.

His first film was Pajarito Gómez (1965), and his cinematographic consecration (the acting genre in which he has had more continuity) was produced thanks to the film El romance del Aniceto and la Francisca.

Endowed with a voice as powerful as his presence on screen, Luppi made all his characters credible and was especially convincing in the most temperamental expressions, as he showed in the Spanish thriller Nobody will talk about us when we are dead.

He is especially recognized for his participation in films by Argentine director Adolfo Aristarain: Tiempo de revancha (1981), A place in the world (1992), Lugares comunes (2002).

He was a frequent collaborator of the Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, with whom he worked on three films: Cronos (also known as The Invention of Cronos), El espinazo del diablo and El laberinto del fauno.

After becoming one of Argentina’s most prestigious national and international actors and starring in several films of Argentine cinema, decided to settle in Spain in 2001, angered by the implementation of the corralito. [citation required] This happened shortly before the Argentine political crisis that ended with the resignation of then President Fernando de la Rua. In Spain he participated in important accomplishments, but he also worked in television series and was even the protagonist of the work El guía del Hermitage in 2008, after ten years without performing theatrical works.

He also tried his luck as a director with the film Pasos, a Spanish production, after passing through several production companies, it was filmed in January / February 2004 and hit theaters in June 2005. Actresses Ana Fernández and Susana Hornos won the Best Actress awards at the Iberoamerican Festival of Villaverde and the Revelation Actress at the Cinespaña Festival in Toulouse (France), respectively, for this film.

Her last participation as a co-star was in the filming of Marcelo Shapces’ film, Necronomicón: the book of hell.

Federico Luppi holds the record of being the Argentinian actor with the most Silver Condor Prizes for best actor, which he won six times.

The actor was married between the ages of 23 and 29, and had a son and a daughter in that marriage, and he had a ten-year relationship with the actress Haydée Padilla. He had another son with Uruguayan actress Brenda Accinelli, who was receiving alimony and was married to the Spanish actress Susana Hornos.
