Elizabeth Pena’s Biography

Peña was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, daughter of Estella Margarita and Mario Peña, writer, actor and Cuban director who co-founded the Latin American Theater Assembly, Peña graduated in New York at the famous High School of Performing Arts. in 1977. His classmates were Ving Rhames (with whom he would later co-star in Jacob’s Ladder) and Esai Morales (with whom he would later co-star in La Bamba).

Appeared in films like La Bamba as Rosie Morales-Valenzuela, Batteries Not Included as Marisa Esteval, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Lone Star, Vibes, Rush Hour, Free Willy 2, among others. He performed on Showtime Resurrection Blvd, as Tia Bibi Corrades. He also lent his voice to the character Mirage, from the animated film The Incredibles. She was guest star in the eighteenth episode of the second season of Numb3rs, as Sonya Benavides.

Peña starred in the television seriesMarried Dora, a sitcom that only lasted 13 episodes in 1987. In the last show, the cast broke “the fourth wall” of suspended disbelief.

Co-starred in the critically acclaimed, but short-lived, television series Shannon’s Deal (1989-1991), by writer and director John Sayles. In 1996, Sayles wrote and directed the mystery film Lone Star and put Peña back as a co-star.

Likewise, she participated in the fiction Modern Family in the role of Pilar, mother of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (Sofía Vergara).
