Edward S. Brophy (February 27, 1895 – May 27, 1960) was a character actor, voice actor and comedian of American nationality. Of small constitution, bald and with a shrilly voice, he was known for his gangster roles, both in serious and comic films.
Edward Brophy’s Biography
Born in New York, United States, in 1928, with only a few small film roles in his baggage, Brophy worked on production tasks for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. That year was chosen to perform with Buster Keaton in a sequence of Keaton’s film The Cameraman. Thanks to that unique scene, Brophy was able to get more and better roles, spending most of his long and prolific career at MGM.
Among his papers stand out those carried out in The Champ (1931), Freaks (1932), dinner of the accused (1934) and The Thin Man Goes Home (1944). Brophy also became famous for giving voice to Timothy Q. Mouse in Dumbo, even though the credits did not pick up his performance.
Edward Brophy passed away in 1960 in Pacific Palisades (Los Angeles), California, during the filming of Two Rode Together. He was buried at the Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Santa Monica, California.
